Tips for Better Sleep

When you are settling down to go to bed, try to minimize exposure to lighting in the evenings to make it easier to fall asleep. The recommended amount of sleep for a healthy adult is at least seven hours. It will help if you create a sleep schedule for you go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Being consistent reinforces your body's sleep-wake cycle. You also don't want to go to bed hungry or stuffed. Making these small changes can make a big difference in your quality of sleep!

Why Go to the Gym?

There are countless reasons for going to the gym and they can vary from person to person. Personally, it helps me keep my head clear. Any time I am feeling stressed about school or anything, I realize it is time to hit the gym. By the time I am done with my workout, I am ready to continue doing what I was doing. This is one of the best stress relivers that you can get and its free! I know being a part of a gym costs money, but there is nothing against getting a workout in your room or home. If you look up exercises that you can do in your room with no equipment, you will find countless different things you can do!

APAC Club

I was only involved in Kids in Action last year, but that made me want to get more involved. I joined APAC this year and it has been so much. I got to do Kids in Action and be a part of so many fun activities. We have helped so many children with disabilities have fun getting physical activity. There is no better feeling watching a kid succeed after helping them. I also want to say I never thought I would get involved with anything APA related, but after the first time I found a new passion, I didn't know I had. I recommend everyone give it a chance and comes out and joins APAC!

Physical Activity Tips

Try out new activities that you have never tried before, this will give you the opportunity to find new ways to get physical activity that you enjoy. Physical activity is typically split up into three categories which are light, moderate, and vigorous physical activity. You want to aim for at least 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity. These activities would include dancing or jogging. Another goal should be to do two strengthening activities per week. An easy change you can make is park a little bit farther away from school or your job. Another easy tip is to create a fitness calendar and you want to start off slow. You don't want to put so much on the calendar that it is overwhelming or makes you want to give up. It should encourage you to keep up with your physical activity and live a healthy lifestyle!
